Main Purpose of Job

This position will process licensure renewal applications, and the issuance of licensure for temporary and initial registered nurse and licensed practical nurse applicants. This position serves as the first point of contact for licenses and applicants via telephone, email, and walk-ins. This position will also analyze licensure data to assure nurses are in compliance with the Nurse Practice Act and Multistate Licensure Compact Rules, perform required notifications, make corrections and/or changes in licensure data base and the National Council of State Boards licensure database (NURSYS). This position is crucial to carry out the Boards mission to advance safe quality care and public protection in Maryland.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two years of experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute experience as defined above at the rate of one year experience for 30 credit hours of education for up to 60 credit hours of the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university for the required education and experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

The preferred candidate should have the following experience:    

    • processing licensure renewal applications    
    • analyzing licensure data
    • strong customer service

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

For education obtained outside the U.S., any job offer will be contingent on the candidate providing an evaluation for equivalency by a foreign credential evaluation service prior to starting employment (and may be requested prior to interview).

Candidates may remain on the certified eligible list for a period of at least one year. The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this or other State agencies.
