Introduction

The Maryland State Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped provides comprehensive library services to the eligible blind and physically handicapped residents of the State of Maryland. POSITION DUTIES

This position provides leadership and high quality library assistance to the clients of the Maryland State Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (LBPH). This position is responsible for processing patron applications, checking the eligibility for services, maintaining patron records, and tracking patron use of the library services. The individual in this position is also responsible for the provision of basic reader advisory and information and referral service to the print disabilities served by the library.  

Oversee applications/eligibility verification process to ensure smooth transition of patrons into the LBPH programs. 

Provide first line contact with all new patrons to explain LBPH service and coordinate profiles for new patrons through regular telephone and email contact. 

Manage subscription services for patrons and LBPH 

Prepare monthly unit reports 

Prepare statistical tables, charts, work flow charts for the unit and maintain statistics according to Federal Guidelines 

Assist Reference/Public Services Librarian in planning and implementing new or revised procedures or practices

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university. 

Experience: One year of experience in administrative or professional work. 

Notes: 
1. Candidates may substitute experience as defined above for the required education at the rate of one year of experience for 30 credit hours, for up to 60 credit hours of required education. 
2. Candidates may substitute 90 credit hours at an accredited college or university for the required education and experience. 3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Prior experience working in public libraries

Prior experience maintaining paper files, including classifying, alphabetizing, and sorting files.

Prior experience with data entry transferring data from paper documents into computer files or database systems.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidate may be responsible for providing their own transportation as needed to access meetings, remote locations, and job destinations as assigned.
