Introduction

The Transportation Division of the Maryland Public Service Commission has a full-time contractual position available for an Administrative Specialist (Compliance Investigator). This position enforces the laws and regulations of the Commission concerning passenger for-hire transportation and taxicab services offered within the State of Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES

The purpose of this position is the coordination and participation in the safety and enforcement efforts of the Commission's Transportation Division. This position will be responsible for assisting the Director and Assistant Directors of Transportation in scheduling of field personnel, developing proactive enforcement and security plans, and coordinating the Division's effort in the execution of planned activities. This position will include processing and monitoring the investigation of complaints, assisting with the citation process, and providing administrative duties as assigned by the Director and Assistant Director of Transportation. Duties of this position include data entry, preparing written reports, serving as a liaison with law enforcement agencies, and testifying at Commission hearings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university.

Experience: One year of experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes: 1. Candidates may substitute experience as defined above for the required education at the rate of one year of experience for 30 credit hours, for up to 60 credit hours of required education.

2. Candidates may substitute 90 credit hours at an accredited college or university for the required education and experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

Customer Service Experience

Experience in testifying in court settings

Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access database experience

Law enforcement or investigative experience

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must be provided prior to hire.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who works for an agency covered under the State employee and the Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week ( or on average 130 hours per month) may ne eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
