MDH/Calvert County Health Department, Local Behavioral Health Authority Unit, Prince Frederick, Maryland

Main Purpose of Job

This position will lead the planning, oversight and evaluation of a comprehensive Behavioral Health System in Calvert County, including population-based initiatives, to improve behavioral health outcomes. Behavioral Health includes substance misuse, prevention and control, as well as mental health. 

This position will also manage subordinate managers and supervisors who oversee population-level efforts in behavioral health. He/she will lead a unit that works closely with many public and private partners throughout the county to address the adequacy of local behavioral health treatment services and ensure that the behavioral health needs of vulnerable populations are being considered.   

Finally, this position will work to implement and evaluate collaborative initiatives to address prevention and control of substance misuse at the population level, as well as to optimize mental health outcomes and ensure that comprehensive and culturally-sensitive health educational and behavioral health resources are provided to residents and their families.   

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, social work, psychology, education, counseling, or a related field.

Experience: Six years professional experience in health services, three of which must have been in professional work related to treatment and development of mentally ill patients, and three of which must have been at the managerial or supervisory level.

Notes: 1. Applicants may substitute a Master’s or Doctoral degree in a health or human services field for up to two years of the required general experience.

2. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in another field, plus an additional year of professional experience in health services, may be substituted for the specific degree.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Administration classifications or Health Services Administration specialty codes in the health-related field of work, on a year-for-year basis, for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should have experience working in a Mental Health or Addiction program. He/she should also have experience working with budgets.
