Main Purpose of Job

This position repairs, maintains, tests and assembles both stationary and mobile radios, in-car video systems, speed control devices, in-car computer systems and other related equipment for the Maryland State Police. In addition, duties also include operating and maintaining specialized equipment for locating problems in radio sets, tracing circuits and checking cables along with other troubleshooting activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of experience in the repair of electronic communications equipment of which two years must have included the repair of two-way FM radios.

Notes: 

1. Applicants may substitute successful completion of a one year program of study in radio electronics at a recognized training school, trade school, or college for up to one year of the required general experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Electronics Technician (Communications) classifications or Signal Corps, Aerospace Maintenance, or Data/Communications Maintenance specialty codes in the Aviation Communications field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.  

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates appointed to positions in these classifications may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates are subject to a complete criminal background investigation to include a polygraph examination before appointment can be made.  A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate.

SELECTION PROCESS

Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for this classification.  Successful candidates will be placed on an eligible list as a BEST QUALIFIED candidate.  The list will be used by the hiring manager to select the individual to fill the vacancy.
