Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide licensed forensic psychological services to a potentially violent population of forensic patients at a 24/7 in-patient facility. These services are provided to the mentally ill on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. This psychologist performs a variety of Forensic Psychological evaluations, including competency to stand trail, criminal responsibility and risk evaluations. This psychologist also participates in a number of court hearings and reviews relating to assigned forensic cases. These services are performed under general supervision. This position may supervise psychology students (externs), who are not state employees, but are here for training purposes. This position also provides forensic psychological services on an inpatient and outpatient basis to adults with court involvement and associated with Spring Grove Hospital Center.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Psychologists under the licensing requirements for Psychologists.

Experience: Two years of experience rendering psychological services or engaged in psychological research after receipt of the License as a Psychologist.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Clinical Psychology classifications or Psychology specialty codes in the Psychology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates must be licensed as a Psychologist by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists prior to permanent appointment to a position in State service. Applicants who do not have a Maryland license may also apply pending receipt of the required license. When the license has been obtained, submit a copy of the license to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Testing Unit to remove pending status.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
