Introduction
Maryland Public Television, which is commonly known by its familiar name "MPT", is a public television network that comprises six television stations that broadcast throughout the entire state of Maryland as well as into the District of Columbia and parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is the only statewide broadcaster in Maryland. MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service.
This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

Main Purpose of Job
Videographers (a.k.a photogs, photographers, photojournalists, MMJ's, etc.) are the primary source for capturing the video images and sound that producers use to create their programs. Contemporary production practices dictate that producers move beyond the confines of the studio and go to the story directly, regardless of where it is. The ability to record high quality material on location, despite its limitations, is their prime asset of the videographer.
The incumbent must be willing to work flexible hours to include a short turn around, overtime, holidays, and weekends. The incumbent must be able to lift 50 lbs. or more due to the weight of the equipment.
POSITION DUTIES

A videographer operates portable equipment with the objective of recording video and audio for use in a production.

The videographer should be capable of offering direction to on-camera talent and should be concerned with the quality of the talent's performance.

Studio/location production personnel operate as part of a television production crew. They are required to assemble and disassemble sets, move and hang fixtures from a studio grid, assist the lighting director, and setup and/or strike equipment after a production.

During actual production videographers must be able to competently perform in the role of floor director, camera operator, production assistant, robotic camera operator and teleprompter operator.

The videographer must drive the state vehicles in a responsible manner. The videographer must also maintain log sheet for regular maintenance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Five (5) years of experience shooting broadcast news and or feature packages with the ability to frame scenes and follow the action on location including directing talent with technical and aesthetic experience with PDW 700/850 series XDCAM or similar cameras, and with FS7 or similar compact larger-sensor cameras. The ability to use accompanying equipment such as lens, mixers, tripods, lighting fixtures and various microphones.
For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must be provided prior to hire.

Current documented and relevant experience within the last five (5) years of the following:

Shooting broadcast news and or feature packages with the ability to frame scenes and follow the action on location.

Directing talent with technical and aesthetic experience with PDW 700/850 series XDCAM or similar cameras, and with FS7 or similar compact larger-sensor cameras.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
