Main Purpose of Job

This is a clinical level position with the Division of Rehabilitation Services, Rehabilitation Technology Services Program that specializes in the application of computer based and other assistive technologies that when applied, promote employment, economic self-sufficiency and/or independence of individuals with disabilities.

POSITION DUTIES

Responsible for performing assistive technology services in the Rehabilitation Technology Services Department. Perform detailed and comprehensive clinical assessments of individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, and/or deaf/blind to determine potential need for and benefit from computer based and other assistive technology.  Provide assessments at home, training and work sites to determine most appropriate application of assistive technology and related accommodation strategies.  Performs the following Assistive Technology Support Services and Training, as appropriate: Setup and configure computer systems and related assistive technology. Track and monitor equipment/software purchased for all DORS consumers serviced and coordination with vendors, DORS/WTC/RTS staff and consumers to ensure timely receipt of equipment/software. Conduct individual orientation, demonstrations, and training on assistive technology hardware and software. Provide technical support on assistive technology hardware/software and mainstream computer technology to all DORS consumers and employers.  Meet service outcome goals.  Secure appropriate AWARE service authorization items.  Performs case management duties and completes required documentation including written reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree is required.  A Master’s Degree is preferred.

Experience:

Two years of professional experience in software/hardware technical support, assistive technology, teaching or rehabilitation work in education or rehabilitation programs for individuals with disabilities. Experience working with individuals with disabilities including individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, and/or deaf/blind is preferred.  

Notes:

Certifications such as RESNA’s Assistive Technology Professional (ATP), ACVREP’s Certified Assistive Technology Instructional Specialist for People with Visual Impairments (CATIS), Vendor Certifications (JAWS, ZoomText etc…), or certificate/degree’s in AT or Special Education such as CSUN’s Assistive Technology Applications Certificate Program (ATACP) preferred.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Proficiency in American Sign Language is required.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of Assistive Technologies, including but not limited to video and optical magnifiers, Screen Magnification and Screen Reading programs, Standalone Readers, Voice Recorders (commercial and adaptive).   Knowledge of Commercial Technologies, software, and their accessibility settings, including but not limited to MAC OS, Apple iOS, Android, Windows OS, Microsoft Office and Internet Browsers.   Knowledge of existing and emerging technologies.   Skilled in installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and training on assistive technology.   Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds, stoop, bend, reach, and climb.   Ability to provide quality customer service and communicate effectively.
