Main Purpose of Job
A Physician Clinical Specialist is the advanced level of work providing clinical services in an area of medical specialization. This position will work with the Child Advocacy Center providing medical exams for children residing in 5 counties when referrals have been made to the Department of Social Services for suspected child abuse. This position will supervise SANE nurses, provide medical input to programs, and attend relevant multidisciplinary team meetings. The selected applicant must be able to document findings and defend them in court should a legal case result.
Education: Possession of a degree in medicine from an accredited college or university.
Experience: As required for certification in an area of medical specialization by an American Medical Association Specialty Board.
Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Medical Corpsman and Physicians classifications or Nursing or Physician and Medical Services and Special Corpsman Officer specialty codes in the medicine field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
The selected applicant must be certified by an AMASB in Pediatrics and have experience working with sexually or physically abused children.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Applicants must be certified by an American Medical Association Specialty Board in an area of medical specialization. A copy of the current license must be attached to the application.
2. Applicants must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. A copy of the current license must be attached to the application.
Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
