Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Department of Natural Resources, Engineering and Construction Unit. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.

Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Engineering and Construction Unit, is currently accepting applications for an Agency Project Engineer/Architect Supervisor. This position will serve as Chief of Critical Maintenance for DNR Engineering & Construction. This position supervises 9 Agency Project Engineer/Architect positions assigned to Critical Maintenance. This group is responsible for evaluating, prioritizing, designing, managing and carrying to completion a wide variety of projects associated with preserving and maintaining buildings, utilities and infrastructure managed by DNR. In addition, this group handles emergency repairs resulting from natural and man-made disasters, as well as other unforeseen emergencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of experience as a design and project manager engineer or architect for agency capital and operating construction, maintenance and system services projects.

Notes:

1. Additional experience as an engineer or architect in the building construction field involving the design, construction or repair of building structures or system services may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Professional Engineer or Professional Architect registration in the State of Maryland or in a state with comparable requirements may be substituted for the required education and experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Engineering and Architecture classifications or Engineering and Architecture specialty codes in the Architecture field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following preferred qualifications; please include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualifications.

1. Budget and CBIS development preparation experience.

2. Two year Capital Improvement Program experience.

3. Two years of supervisory experience running a staff of at least 5 people with duties such as scheduling, conflict resolution, leave and time sheet approval, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, etc.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

This recruitment is limited to current Maryland Department of Natural Resources employees only.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees may be required to carry an electronic paging device or provide the employing agency with a telephone number where the employee can be reached.
