Main Purpose of Job

The Maryland Department of Health, Behavioral Health Administration is seeking Registered Nurse Managers to provide nursing care as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act to patients/clients who are referred to the Intake Unit, a 24-bed forensic inpatient facility conducting evaluation and treatment for court ordered individuals diagnosed with psychiatric illness.  The Intake Unit is located on the grounds of Spring Grove Hospital Center, in Catonsville, Maryland.  Registered Nurse Managers on the unit will provide managerial level of work planning and coordinating the provision of nursing care for all shifts within the facility.  This position will supervise RN Supervisors or RN Charges as well as provide nursing care to patients/clients; administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques; assess the current health status of the patient and identify nursing needs; observe, evaluate, and validate with patient the effects of nursing measures and revise the care plan as necessary; work with a healthcare team in developing and implementing appropriate nursing care measures, health programs and patient care plans, and other similar duties. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree in Nursing or a health-related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of experience as a Registered Nurse, to include two years as a Registered Nurse in a psychiatric setting, and one year in a supervisory, administrative or consultative capacity.

Notes: 1. A Master's degree in Nursing or a health-related field from an accredited college or university and two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a psychiatric setting may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.

2. Six years of experience as a Registered Nurse to include three years in a supervisory, administrative or teaching capacity in the option for which application is made may be substituted for the Education and Experience requirements.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classifications or Nursing and Hospital Administration specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
