Main Purpose of Job

This position provides administrative support to the Department of Human Services (DHS), Office of Employment and Program Equity (OEPE) Director, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEOC) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) staff. The mission of OEPE is to ensure equal opportunity in all areas and aspects of the agency to adhere and prohibit discrimination in all areas of employment.

POSITION DUTIES

Provides administrative support with EEO/ADA complaints, investigations, hearings, and meetings; retains internal EEO and ADA files (hard copy and electronic); requests extensions to ensure all deadlines are met for each individual case; maintains adequate communication with OEPE's staff, DHS personnel, outside agencies, complainants, respondents, and witnesses in accordance with State Fair Practice Regulations; sustains efficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs, and other databases; reviews outgoing correspondence for grammatical errors and verifies correct recipients to ensure correct delivery; monitors ADA and EEO laws and policies for updates, records and reports all changes to the Director; attends EEOC and ADA outreach events and internal trainings with approval; retains records and processes requisitions for OEPE's supply orders with required approval as needed; and performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

EXPERIENCE: One year experience in administrative or professional work.

NOTES:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative staff or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

One year of the required minimum qualification experience must have included experience in Equal Employment Opportunity (EEOC) or Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) procedures and regulations.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess:

1. Experience providing administrative support to EEOC or ADA officers regarding complaints, investigations, hearings and meetings.

2. One year experience with the internet, Windows, templates for flow-charting, Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Publisher to create reports and confidential documents.

3. One year experience retaining internal and external confidential files/documents.

4. Bachelor's degree being in one of the following areas: Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, Human Resources, Business Administration or similar degrees.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
