 This is contractual employment and workers are paid for actual hours worked only.  Hours will vary, but full-time hours are generally available during much of the season, depending on weather and other factors.

1 Opening (full-time day shift) - Baltimore County - Dundalk Office

1 Opening (part-time night shift) - Baltimore County - Dundalk Office

Main Purpose of Job

Seasonal employment to assist with surveillance and control of mosquito population in Anne Arundel and Baltimore Counties, Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES

Job Duties may include:

  • Handling, mixing and applying pesticides.
  •  Mosquito Collection Field inspection.
  •  Record Keeping.
  •  Driving spray truck.

 Involves contact with the public, exposure to biting, stinging insects and safe operation of department vehicles and equipment.  May be required to wear protective equipment.  Some shifts involve working evenings and early morning hours.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED required.  Each candidate must be at least 18 years of age and possess a driver's license valid in Maryland, with no more than 5 points on driving record.

 Driver's license valid in Maryland is required, with no more than 5 points on driving record.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees shall be eligible to accrue Paid Leave in accordance with the Maryland Healthy Working Families Act (Title 3, Subtitle 13 of the Labor and Employment Article).  The employee shall be eligible to use accrued Paid Leave after the first 106 calendar days the employee has worked for the Maryland Department of Agriculture.  The employee must maintain a schedule of at least 24 hours in a 2-week pay period in order to accrue Paid Leave.  If the employee works sufficient hours to accrue Paid Leave, the employee shall accrue Paid Leave at the rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours in a calendar year.

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
