Main Purpose of Job
Provide secretarial support services for Vocational Rehabilitation Supervisors and Specialists in the adjudication of Social Security disability claims.
POSITION DUTIES
Type correspondence accurately with appropriate attachments and transmit to appropriate sources; Open, review, prioritize and date stamped mail. Authorize electronic payment of all Medical Evidence of Record (MER) invoices. Verify receipt of MER on legacy system and process payment. Review Consultative Examination (CE) notices for accuracy and prepare CE letters for mailing. Assist with validation and manual indexing of electronic claims. Access voice mail system and respond to inquiries, and document on legacy system. Access and utilize necessary automated applications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
EXPERIENCE:
Three years performing secretarial or clerical work involving typing duties.
Notes:

Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.

Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Individuals selected for positions with the Maryland State Department of Education's Disability Determination Service (DDS) will go through a complete Tier 2 federal background investigation. A suitability determination by the Social Security Administration is necessary to determine whether an employee can be issued credentials in order to have access to Social Security disability data, records, and systems.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS
The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
