Main Purpose of Job

The Behavioral Health Administration is seeking a dedicated and committed individual to serve as a Coordinator (HG 8-505). The individual in this position will respond to court orders which commit defendants to the Department for the purpose of evaluation to determine their need for and amiability to substance use treatment and their subsequent placement into treatment in accordance with law. As the Department's Coordinator, this position is responsible for documenting receipt of court orders in the Salesforce Case Management System, assigning the court order to evaluators Statewide who will conduct evaluations, monitoring the evaluators for completed submissions and generating identification numbers. This position will also review the evaluations for quality assurance. The duties of this position are time sensitive due to the Maryland legislative statue of seven days to meet compliance. This position may be required to conduct substance use evaluations. In order to perform the duties of this position, staff must be knowledgeable of treatment resources, the American Society of Addicted Medicine (ASAM) criteria and be certified or licensed by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:    Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, social work, psychology, education, counseling or a related field.  A copy of your transcript must be attached to the application.

Experience:  Five years of professional experience in health services, two years of which must have been in the option for which application is made.

NOTES:

1.  Applicants may substitute a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a health or human service field for one year of the required general experience.

2.  Experience in the option must be as follows: professional work related to treatment and services for persons with alcohol or other substance abuse addiction.

3.  A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in another field plus one additional year of professional experience in health services may be substituted for the specific degree.

4.  Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Administration classifications or Civil Affairs Specialist specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful applicant should be knowledgeable of treatment resources, the American Society of Addicted Medicine (ASAM) criteria, and be certified or licensed by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
