POSITION DUTIES

The incumbent of this position will provide service to the customers of the Annapolis Data Center (ADC) by operating and monitoring the ADC mainframe, operating printers and print console, operating tape drives and tape console, providing courier service between Annapolis and Baltimore, and providing Help Desk support. Duties include job scheduling, executing batch work, performing Initial Program Load of the ADC mainframe, and monitoring the main console. Duties also include testing and maintaining Disaster Recovery and Continuity of Operations Plans for ADC Operations, which includes travel to alternate sites for testing or recovery from an actual disaster.

PLEASE NOTE: ITD is responsible for the 24x7x365 support for ADC mainframe, distributed systems, and networks. All ITD employees are available for on-call support. As such, this position is required to occasionally work an off-hour schedule, weekdays prior to 7:30 a.m. and / or after 5:00 p.m., weekends, and holidays.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience operating multipurpose, multi-tasking computer systems.

NOTES:

  1. Experience operating computer equipment for the purpose of data entry, word processing or maintaining information may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
  2. Fifteen credit hours in computer operation at an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
  3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Computer System Operations classifications or Computer System Operations specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years of experience working with the IBM z/OS operating system
  • Experience with IBM JCL
  • Experience with IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler
  • Experience with the CA ACF2 security software
  • Experience with disaster recovering planning and testing

EXAMINATION PROCESS

Only applicants who meet the minimum and selective qualifications for this recruitment will be considered for this opportunity. The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience. Qualifying applicants are subject to an oral interview. Prior to appointment, the employee must successfully undergo a comprehensive background investigation including a review of criminal, MVA and tax records; and determination of legal authorization to work in the United States or under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. Upon initial appointment OR promotion to a position in the State Personnel Management System, an employee is required to serve an initial six month probationary period. This probationary period may be extended an additional six months under certain circumstances at the discretion of the appointing authority.
