NATURE OF WORK

A Correctional Supply Officer III is the lead level of work involving the custody, security and supervision of adult inmates in storekeeping and warehousing operations at a correctional facility.  The work involves directing the activities of inmate helpers and maintaining their custody and control.  Employees in this classification assign, review and approve the work of and train lower-level Correctional Supply Officers.

Employees in this classification receive general supervision from a Correctional Supply Officer Supervisor or other designated official.  The work is performed in and around a correctional facility and employees are continually exposed to inmates who may be abusive and hostile.  Employees may be required to physically subdue and restrain inmates during fights and escape attempts.

Positions in this classification are evaluated using the classification job evaluation methodology.  The use of this method involves comparing assigned duties and responsibilities of a position to the job criteria found in the Nature of Work and Examples of Work Sections of the class specification.

The Correctional Supply Officer III is differentiated from the Correctional Supply Officer II in that the Correctional Supply Officer III assigns, reviews and approves the work of and trains lower-level Correctional Supply Officers while the Correctional Supply Officer II performs the full range of duties and responsibilities under general supervision within established guidelines.  The Correctional Supply Officer III is differentiated from the Correctional Supply Officer Supervisor in that the Correctional Supply Officer Supervisor has supervisory responsibility for lower-level Correctional Supply Officers.
