Employees in this classification receive general supervision from a Data Entry Operator Supervisor. Employees in this classification may be assigned to work day, evening or night shifts, which may include weekends and holidays. Employees are required to work with keyboards and computer monitors for long periods of time.

Positions in this classification are evaluated using the Classification Job Evaluation Methodology. The use of this method involves comparing the assigned duties and responsibilities of a position to the job criteria found in the Nature of Work and Examples of Work sections of a class specification.

The Data Entry Operator I and Data Entry Operator II are differentiated on the basis of the degree of supervisory control exercised by the supervisor over these employees. The Data Entry Operator I performs duties under close supervision at times and under general supervision at other times depending on the complexity of the specific duties being performed and the Data Entry Operator II performs the full range of duties under general supervision. The Data Entry Operator II is differentiated from the Data Entry Operator Lead in that the Data Entry Operator Lead assigns, reviews and approves the work of and trains lower-level Data Entry Operators.
