Salary Information
Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.
**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies**
Nature of Work
NATURE OF WORK: The fundamental reason this class exists is to perform and oversee complex technical engineering work associated with the coordination, inspection, surveying, location, design, construction, and maintenance of residential subdivision streets, County roads, and highway structures such as culverts, bridges and utilities associated with the County infrastructure. Essential functions are: directs the day-to-day activities of the survey crew; prepares engineering designs, plans and maps; manages and inspects the construction of new streets and roads in residential subdivisions; supervises the construction and paving of new County roads; and prepares and maintains records relating to road and bridge construction and subdivision projects. Employees in this class exercise independent judgment in the management and coordination of difficult technical projects from oral and written guidelines. This classification is distinguished from the lower classifications by the responsibility for handling and overseeing the more complex technical work situations and the independence with which duties are performed. Employee in the class reports to the Civil Engineering Technician IV and the Assistant County Engineer.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or G.E.D equivalent. Eight (8) years of experience in project management or as a construction superintendent in highway and bridge construction.
Special Requirements
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work overtime, occasionally on weekends, weekdays, and holidays. Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama driver's license and an insurable driving record as needed to drive a Montgomery County vehicle. May require certification in bridge inspection, material testing or surveying.
