The
fundamental reason this class exists is to have management oversight of all grants
for Montgomery County. Major work functions include managing the development of
all grant programs, managing the administration of all grants and grant
programs, writing grants and interfacing with various County personnel and
management concerning plan of action for grant funding, to include accounting
or fiscal needs of grants. Duties are performed with considerable independence
according to the standards of professional grant writing and administration, County
ordinances and state and federal laws. Grant and grant related programs including
non-entitlement grants, public and private grants, and other special grants.
The employee ensures that all federal and state grant requirements, such as
labor standards, environmental reviews, and project/program eligibility, are
met in order to provide for new and continued grant funding. Work is supervised
and evaluated under the direction of the Deputy County Administrator.
The Grants Administrator is responsible for the comprehensive management of all federal, state, local, public, and private grants for Montgomery County. This includes identifying funding opportunities, developing grant programs, writing and submitting applications, and managing the life cycle of awarded grants. The role demands a deep understanding of grant compliance—particularly under 2 CFR § 200 (Uniform Guidance)—and a demonstrated record of successful grant acquisition and administration. This position requires high-level coordination with department heads, external partners, and auditors to ensure that all grant-related activities align with regulatory, financial, and programmatic standards. The work is performed with significant independence and requires strong judgment, organizational ability, and adherence to professional standards in public administration.
Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, planning, or a related field and five years of experience in grants administration to include two years of related supervisory experience. Demonstrated success in securing and managing large-scale grants, including federal funding.Must posses valid Alabama driver's license.
Availability to attend occasional evening or weekend public meetings or grant-related events. Must be able to work collaboratively across departments and with the public in a professional setting.
