WORK RESPONSIBILITIES: The following list of work responsibilities was developed through a job analysis; however, it is not exhaustive and other duties may be required and assigned.
Performs reporting duties to include receiving/collecting funds and completing financial and accident reports.
Monitors the facility to include inspecting the facility and grounds for repair, requesting maintenance work on the facility, overseeing/inspecting maintenance and repair work.
Performs administrative duties to include scheduling rentals, overseeing special events, requesting equipment and supplies, and opening/closing the facility.
Oversees recreational programs and activities in the facility during the evening, weekends and summer.
Completes department forms, reports, and records and maintains records and files to include employee time records and program participation records.
Plans and schedules seasonal programs by estimating the participation levels, determining public interest in the program, scheduling and promoting the program, assigning staff and enrolling participants.
Actively leads recreation programs as needed based on public needs or demands, staff availability and expertise.
Oversees/supervises rec aides and volunteers to implement recreational programs.
Designs flyers, brochures and calendars of events to publicize programs and activities to the public, schools, etc.
Knowledge of departmental procedures and requirements regarding the use of the facility, the handling of disciplinary problems and procuring supplies as needed to ensure goals and objectives are carried out according to departmental standards
and procedures.
Knowledge of methods and means of identifying community resources and neighborhood interest to include coordinating programs with school principals, teachers, community leaders and churches as needed to plan and administer special programs.
Knowledge of basic math skills to include addition, subtraction, multiplication and division as needed to count monies and maintain accurate financial records and reports.
Knowledge of financial procedures to include allocating and disbursing funds and monitoring expenditures as needed to remain within financial parameters.
Knowledge of basic recreation programming to include both active and passive programs as needed to oversee the administrative and operational activities at recreational centers.
Knowledge of proper instructional methods and techniques as appropriate for teaching recreation programs to all ages.
Ability to lead, instruct and participate in several types of recreation program activities.
Ability to use a personal computer to include keyboard layout, function keys, how to access and use software as needed to create, save, retrieve, organize and delete files.
Ability to operate on-road vehicles to include cars, vans, and buses as needed to transport center participants to and from the center, field trips, and other special events or functions.
Ability to communicate orally to include being clear and concise and adjusting appropriate level of communication as needed to relay information to staff, volunteers, other agencies, and the public or to respond to inquiries.
Ability to maintain confidentiality with regards to Personnel matters, programs, and participants.
Ability to communicate in writing to include clarity, sentence structure, spelling and basic grammar, logical ordering of information and ideas as needed to design flyers and prepare correspondence and maintain records and reports.
Ability to prepare reports and maintain accurate records to include attendance and financial reports, and time sheets, as needed to carry out existing programs and activities.
Ability to interact with children and adults of all ages to include courtesy, tact, patience, knowing when to be firm, using a calm and neutral tone of voice, listening, hearing both sides without judging, and recognizing when to dispense of conversation and compose thoughts as needed to resolve conflict, exchange information, oversee programs and assign work duties.
Ability to supervise volunteers to include training, monitoring work performance, providing guidance, coordinating work schedules, counseling and approving leave requests as needed to ensure work is performed correctly.
High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience overseeing facilities and leading recreational programs.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
