Job Description

MHSADS seeks dynamic Behavioral Health Therapists to support a rapidly growing Emergency Services Team and a newly formed Co-Responder Team. Both teams specialize in crisis intervention and stabilization services, including mobile crisis response to designated community locations and co response with law enforcement to other community locations, including homes. The Emergency Services Team also facilitates the civil commitment process.

  • The Behavioral Health Therapist is a member of both teams but primarily assigned to one team: Emergency Services or Co-Responder. 
  • In support of effective 24-hour crisis response, Behavioral Health Therapists use their expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness, substance use disorders, and intellectual/developmental disabilities to provide crisis intervention and stabilization services throughout the community.
  • With a focus on the least restrictive behavioral health treatment options, the Behavioral Health Therapist evaluates individuals experiencing behavioral health and developmental disability crises and links them, their families, and their support systems to treatment and community resources.

Successful candidates excel in complex, fast paced environments and are passionate about crisis work, with law enforcement, and support 24/7/365 crisis response with: astute clinical acumen, a collaborative approach to community partnerships, and excellent critical thinking skills. They are highly creative and adapt easily to rapidly changing, often competing demands for service.

The full compensation range for this position is provided. Hiring salary will be commensurate with experience.

Job Requirements

  • Master's degree in a field eligible for professional licensure as: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW); Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC); Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT); Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP); Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner; Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist; Medical Doctor (MD); Doctor of Osteopathy (DO); and two (2) years of professional mental health and/or substance use required, which includes internship experience.

Preferred: 

  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) candidates strongly encouraged to apply

Special Requirements

  • Must be eligible for certification as a Certified Preadmission Screening Clinician (CPASC) in accordance with VA DBHDS regulations
  • Must be eligible to be a certified Notary Public
  • Must hold or obtain professional clinical license LCSW, LPC, LMFT or LCP within four (4) years
  • Must be fitted for N-95 (or similar) mask to safely provide on-site services as needed
  • Must adhere to INOVA Loudoun Hospital Center contractor policies
  • Schedule includes days, evenings, overnights, weekends, holidays, and County closures
  • Co-Responder team activities include driving in law enforcement vehicle for extended periods of time, responding to 911 calls for behavioral health crisis with law enforcement, and outreach to individuals/families after 911 calls for service
  • Co-Responder team requirements include wearing a Kevlar vest and participating in trainings via criminal justice academy

Post Conditional Offer Contingencies

Employment is contingent upon successfully passing pre-employment background check to include fingerprinting, credit, NCIC, DMV and TB test. Must have a good driving record and a valid driver's license in Virginia or regional state of residence.
