Job Description

The Classification and Compensation Analyst supports the development, implementation, and administration of the County's classification and compensation system, a critical strategic priority for the Board of Supervisors and the County Administrator. Serving as a credible subject-matter expert to County staff, the Classification and Compensation Analyst will support the County's goal of delivering market competitive pay for all County positions and provide data-driven advice and guidance on the County's classification and compensation strategy. This position will report to the Classification and Compensation Manager.

Job duties will include:

  • Support the classification and compensation needs of assigned County departments.
  • Coordinate with Workforce Planning to conduct job and salary analyses to determine proper classification and grade.
  • Determine salaries for new hires and internal actions such as promotions and position reclassifications.
  • Analyze and evaluate reorganizations.
  • Analyze internal equity and external competitiveness.
  • Resolve pay issues.
  • Compile and analyze complex data and prepare reports of analyses.
  • Conduct position classification and pay studies.
  • Conduct, participate in, and analyze salary surveys.
  • Analyze market data to determine pay and the county's competitive positions.
  • Write and update job descriptions.
  • Implement and maintain the classification and compensation program, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist in delivering compensation training.

Hiring Salary: Commensurate with experience.

This position is eligible for telework in accordance with the County's Telework Policy.

Job Requirements

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree and three (3) years of related human resources work experience including research and analysis required. Local government experience and professional HR certification such as CCP, PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP preferred.  Applicants with less experience may be considered at a lower classification level and salary range.

Thorough knowledge of the theories, principles and practices of classification and compensation management and administration. Strong project management, data analysis, Excel and other MS suite products, oral and written communication, policy development, problem solving, and decision-making skills.

This position is an FLSA Exempt position and may be required to work beyond the normal workweek. Some travel may be required.
