Job Description

The Loudoun County Juvenile Court Service Unit is seeking qualified candidates for a Court Service Unit Intake Officer based out of the Courthouse in Leesburg, VA.

Intake Officers are responsible for screening and processing complaints related to juvenile delinquency and status offenses; screening and processing complaints and requesting protective orders; and processing petitions (including custody, visitation, and child support issues).

Typical Intake Officer responsibilities include:

  • Conducts intake for domestic relations cases.
  • Conducts intake for juvenile cases.
  • Screens and processes juvenile cases; determines need for services or supervision; reviews petitions and other legal pleadings; and meets with law enforcement, school personnel, County and state agencies, and others to screen, process, or refer difficult cases.
  • Monitors cases involving protective orders.

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Knowledge of County, Department of Juvenile Justice, and office policies and procedures related to providing probation services. - Knowledge of Court procedures and laws related to youth.
  • Knowledge of the principles, objectives, and techniques of counseling and social work, particularly as related to juvenile and domestic relations issues.
  • Knowledge of the public school system and its alternatives.
  • Skill in writing and documenting.
  • Skill in organizing and managing time.
  • Ability to write and speak effectively.
  • Ability to organize information and prepare clear, comprehensive, and concise reports.
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other Court and school personnel, youth and their families.
  • Ability to represent the Department on planning committees.

The hiring salary is commensurate with the experience 

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Administration of Justice, Education, or a related field; three (3) years of related work experience in probation or case work in the juvenile or criminal justice field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual English and Spanish preferred

Special Requirements

Pass pre-employment background checks to include fingerprinting, NCIC, VCIN, Child Protective Service (CPS), and DMV. Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification).

Post Conditional Offer Contingencies

Successful candidate will undergo a drug screening and background check. Employment will be contingent upon successful results.
