Job Description

The Loudoun Health Department envisions playing a lead role in fostering a community of health and wellness.The Health Department provides clinical services, nutrition services, environmental health services, vital records, disease prevention and monitoring, emergency planning, and many other health-related services. The mission of the Health Department is to provide health services that enhance and ensure the health of all Loudoun County residents.

The Loudoun County Department of Health is seeking a talented and highly motivated Human Resources Generalist  to work in a diverse, exciting, and fast-paced environment. The Department is seeking a successful candidate who will be detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and employee-focused. Day-to-day responsibilities focus on overall customer service and department support. We are currently hiring at the following locations: Government Center -1 Harrison Street, SE, 2nd Floor Leesburg, VA 20175

Primary responsibilities include a variety of HR duties but are not limited to:

  • Provides ongoing and extensive customer service to HR consumers.
  • Coordinates recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding activities.
  • Manages department data and reports. (Prepares and maintains reports and surveys to: include turnover reports, FMLA and Leave reports; vacancy reports, organizational charts, FTE tracking; and various surveys as requested.)
  • Conduct background checks.
  • Working with management on a variety of HR responsibilities to include: recruitment processes and timelines, which may include but not be limited to preparing job advertisements, salary worksheets, offer letters, and other correspondence to employees.
  • Completes research and analysis.
  • Provide professional advice and counsel to staff. Shares knowledge and information based on areas of technical expertise.
  • May perform other essential job functions specific to the position and department assignment. 

The ideal candidate should have the following:

  • Skill in customer service.
  • Work requires shifting priorities and multi-tasking to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to learn quickly.
  • Knowledge of Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) as well as knowledge of Excel and MS Office applications.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local employment and benefit laws and regulations governing the work of an HR division.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of personnel and payroll records.
  • Completing special projects as assigned.
  • Experience with policy and procedure interpretation and application
  • Strong critical and analytical skills Salary commensurate with experience

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; one (1) year of related work experience in the assigned area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements

  • Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification). 
  • DMV, criminal, and credit background checks are required.
  • Positions in public safety agencies may require fingerprinting and polygraph examination.
  • This position has a "Position of Trust" designation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Human Resources professional certification appropriate to the area of assignment
