Job Description

Loudoun County's Department of General Services is seeking qualified applicants for an Equipment Operator II vacancy at the Loudoun County Solid Waste Management Facility located in Leesburg, VA.

The successful candidate will

  • Demonstrate competency with heavy equipment including track loader, dozer, hydraulic excavator, landfill compactor, articulated truck and street flush truck.
  • Operate equipment engaged in routine landfill operations, such as spreading and compacting waste, covering/burying, and excavating and transporting soil.
  • Construct and repair roadways, ditches, erosion and sediment control according to approved grading plans.
  • Must be willing to perform manual labor as required.
  • Performs general daily maintenance on heavy equipment.

Salary Commensurate with Experience

Job Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent; three (3) years of related work experience in the operation of heavy equipment, reading construction plans, and maintaining grade and earthen structures; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements

A valid driver's license is required. Must be available to work rotating schedule of Mon-Fri and Tues-Sat. from 7:45 AM - 5:00 PM.

Subject to recall or being held beyond scheduled workday; must be available to respond to County emergencies (24/7) as directed in accordance with Department policy and written or verbal directive.

Work is primarily outdoors during all weather conditions.

Post Conditional Offer Contingencies

Criminal background and DMV record check are required. Class (A) or Class (B) Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred for this position; Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) is preferred. The successful candidate holding a CDL must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen and comply with the Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program as outlined by Loudoun County's Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Policy for Transportation Employees.
