Job Description

The Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services is seeking a high energy, customer service-oriented Accounting Technician for a full-time opportunity in Financial Services Division within Business Operations.

The ideal candidate must be a fast learner, be detail-oriented and exercise sound judgment in selecting and applying established procedures correctly and be able to function independently while working cohesively in a team environment. General knowledge of basic accounting/bookkeeping is essential.

Primary responsibilities include a variety of accounting and finance duties but not limited to:

  • Creating requisitions, change orders, processing direct payments, travel expenses, and receiving documents.
  • Reconciling accounts against purchase orders, contacting vendors to ensure purchase orders have been processed and responding to inquiries from vendors.
  • Reconciling invoice quantities and charges with purchase orders or charges with services provided before processing payments.
  • Managing credit card inventory of the department and processing credit card payments for all monthly/quarterly expenses. Conducting credit card reconciliations in accordance with established policies and performing audits of all credit card purchases.
  • Preparing and managing a wide variety of complex spreadsheets, accounting, and fiscal reports for tracking various funding sources for reporting to County and State entities. 

Salary commensurate with experience.

Job Requirements

High School diploma; three (3) years of work experience related to assigned area; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred:

  • Coursework in business, accounting and at least three (3) years of experience in bookkeeping, banking, or accounting; preferably in a government environment. 
  • Experience working with accounting/ financial system
  • Associate's degree and experience with Oracle
