Job Description

We are seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Maintenance Technician II. Under the general direction of the designated supervisor, performs indoor and outdoor maintenance duties for the County. This position conducts preventative maintenance; operates and repairs equipment, tools, and vehicles; performs groundskeeping and applies special turf care; prepares fields for athletic games; responds to weather events and facility emergencies and conducts snow removal.

To be successful, a candidate must be able to communicate ideas effectively, solve problems, and build good relationships with staff, contractors, and the public. PRCS serves a diverse population including but not limited to youth, adults, individuals with disabilities, and seniors.

We are currently hiring at the following location: 

  • Franklin Park, Purcellville, VA

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Implements preventative maintenance plan. 
  • Repairs grounds equipment. 
  • Operates machinery, equipment, vehicles, and tools. 
  • Provides set up for special events and tournaments. 
  • Performs outdoor maintenance. 

May perform other essential job functions specific to the position and department assignment.

Work hours are Monday through Friday from 6:00am - 2:30pm and is subject to call for essential 24-hour operations

Job Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent, preferably with coursework in semi-skilled carpentry, basic trades, or landscaping based on assigned area and two (2) years of related work experience in grounds maintenance inclusive of some level of performance in a supervisory capacity; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of methods, principles, practices, and techniques of grounds maintenance, ballfield preparation, preventative maintenance, building maintenance, and grass mowing operations. 
  • Knowledge of materials, equipment, and terminology required for grounds and indoor maintenance. 
  • Skill in safe and efficient use of maintenance tools. 
  • Ability to perform physical tasks required for designated duties. 
  • Ability to work from specifications, drawings, and blueprints. 
  • Hold or obtain a CDL (Class A) within six (6) months of hire preferred. 
  • Ability to hold or obtain a Commercial Pesticide Applicator's/Fertilizer Applicator License preferred.

Post Conditional Offer Contingencies

  • Pass pre-employment criminal, credit, and DMV background checks.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification). 
  • First Aid/CPR certifications within 30 days of hire; OSHA, forklift, bucket truck, and lift truck training are required within department timeframes.
  • County e-learning and MOAT training as required.
