Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Services (PRCS) is seeking qualified applicants for two full-time Assistant Director positions. Under the general direction of the PRCS Director, the Assistant Directors will provide administrative oversight and direction of staff for their assigned PRCS Divisions. Our ideal candidates will understand the dynamics of the populations served and be knowledgeable of trends in community services. Our ideal candidate will bring a solid business acumen to the team along with innovative strategies for process and program improvement. As a member of the Leadership Team, you will contribute to the growth, direction, and purpose of the overall department through strong management and demonstration of exemplary leadership skills you developed over time in positions of increasing responsibility.

PRCS is a large department, divided into four functional areas of oversight with an Assistant Director assigned to each functional area:

  • Recreation & Community Centers 
  • Community Services including Children's Programs and Aging Services 
  • Departmental Support & Internal Operations 
  • Maintenance, Parks, Sports & Events

We are currently hiring at the following location:

  • PRCS, 742 Miller Drive, Leesburg, VA

Additional duties of the Assistant Director position include:

  • Assists in the development, preparation, and updating of the strategic plan; formulates and implements policies, programs, and procedures. 
  • Supervises staff, ensures all trainings and/or certifications are current and applicable policies and procedures of the department and of the county are followed. 
  • Supports the development of culture that values and motivates staff and engenders the trust and confidence of the public, the Board of Supervisors, and County leaders. 
  • Monitors expenses of the assigned divisions to ensure fiscal year budget allocations are maintained. 
  • Manages complex development review and comprehensive planning assignments and projects. 
  • Represents the Department at internal and external meetings and conferences. 
  • Leads by example and exemplifies and encourages leadership development among staff interdepartmentally. 
  • Have a proven track record of success in leading and managing teams. 
  • Experience in public speaking and making presentations to executives and elected officials. 
  • Utilizing creative and strategic approaches to problem-solving, leading teams through change and complex issues. 
  • Strong collaborator across the organization with key stakeholders. 
  • Administers and manages contracts with vendors. 
  • May be required to work after hours and on weekends depending on departmental needs.

Salary to commensurate with experience
Anticipated hiring range of $99,785.80-$144,689.41

Job Requirements

Master's degree in Business, Public Administration, or a department-related area with five (5) years of directly related, progressively responsible work experience including three (3) years in a supervisory or management role preferably in a government setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Special Requirements

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8+ years of supervisory experience as a division chief/manager, superintendent, or similar position. 
  • Certified Park & Recreation Professional (CPRP).
  • Familiarity or experience within the field of Parks & Recreation. Membership in the Virginia Recreation and Park Society or other state parks and recreation society, and the National Recreation and Park Association are beneficial to the position. 
  • Familiarity or experience with Master Plans, Strategic Plans, and the CAPRA accreditation process for parks and recreation agencies.
