Loudoun County's Department of Information Technology is currently seeking a talented, highly motivated individual to serve as Data Architect for County applications and databases.

This position is eligible for telework in accordance with the County's Telework Policy

This is an individual contributor role with minimal supervision and ability to do hands-on solutioning. The job would require strong understanding of data governance with a focus on Cloud solutions as well as experience with data analytics solutioning and management.

Specific job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Comprehensively define the data architectural solutions for Loudoun County's BI (Business Intelligence), Data Analytics and Data integration platforms while working with technical leads and Subject Matter Experts (SME).
  • Translate business needs into enterprise data architecture requirements and identify and forecast future state data architecture alternatives.
  • Manage architectural frameworks, methods, design patterns and tools and work with key stakeholders to document data sources and associated data artifacts, to include data models and metadata.
  • Design Data Warehouse/data marts/data lakes/data hubs solutions and work with various data warehouse technologies to come up with plans that best support the County.
  • Experiences with data design, database architecture, and metadata repository creation.
  • Design information management strategies necessary to store, move and manage business data by applying existing, new, and emerging techniques.
  • Design and implementation of ETL Workflows using SSIS and other related ETL tools.
  • Define how information should flow and be consumed by various departments and customers.
  • Define Data Standards, Policies and Governance Strategies for the enterprise.
  • Determine data management lifecycle requirements such as data archival, retention and retirement.
  • Provide periodic briefings to peers and leadership on the state of the data architecture.

Job Requirements

Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and at least four (4) years of experience supporting Data Architecture initiatives.

Any certification or work related to Database management is highly desirable. Technical expertise in legacy database environments and SQL server is strongly preferred. Experience with Oracle a plus. Experience in using various modelling tools such as TOAD, Microsoft Visio is preferable.

We are seeking an individual with excellent analytical and technical skills. Excellent written, verbal, communication, and presentation skills. Microsoft related certifications such as the MCSD/MCSE Experience with Tableau, PowerBI or other BI Tools Experience with SSIS or other ETL tools Demonstrated experience translating business and technical requirements into comprehensive data strategies and analytic solutions. Experience with Datawarehouse Cloud Platforms.
