Job Description

We are seeking qualified applicants for a full-time park Planner who will be reporting to the Chief Park Planner. The top priorities for this position include assisting in department data collection for long and short-range planning efforts, including County Park master plans, demographic analysis, parks and recreation standards, and existing inventories. The successful candidate must be capable of communicating ideas effectively orally, in writing, and through presentations. PRCS serves a diverse population including but not limited to youth, adults, individuals with disabilities, and seniors.

We are currently hiring at the following location: 

  • PRCS, 742 Miller Driver, Leesburg, VA

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Researches and analyzes topics and data.
  • evaluates site conditions, constraints, opportunities, and options and scenarios for future park and facilities development. 
  • Oversees rezoning or use of lands for development purposes. 
  • Assist with project management and responds to customer inquiries. 
  • Makes recommendation regarding land use applications and prepares reports. 
  • Resolves zoning issues and customer service issues. 
  • May perform other essential job functions specific to the position and department assignment.

*Work hours Monday - Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm and possible weekends *

Salary commensurate with experience

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Planning, Management, Public Administration, Urban Management, Architecture, Business Administration, Landscape Architecture, Geography, or related field and three (3) years of related work experience in professional planning OR
  • Master's degree in Planning, Management, Public or Business Administration, or related field and one (1) year of professional planning experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of computer operations including GIS, CAD, graphic and cartography applications, word processing and related office applications, and databases used by the Department. 
  • Ability to handle many projects at one time, set priorities, and adjust priorities on short notice. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, County officials, and the general public.

  • Criminal background check and DMV check required. 
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record. 
  • Prefer American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certificate or equivalent.
