The Loudoun County, Virginia Department of Planning & Zoning is seeking an experienced professional to facilitate the discretionary review process of minor land development applications in a large and expanding multifaceted community that is leading growth in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. This position analyzes proposed small-scale development projects and provides recommendations to the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors on consistency with adopted policies and ordinances. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of land use planning and development and will be able to coordinate with other departments and agencies, meet deadlines while managing multiple assignments, and present cohesive technical analysis to decision-makers. This position supports implementation of the Loudoun 2019 Comprehensive Plan vision, and is part of the planning team that will guide the evolution of walkable urban places near the County’s metro stations.
Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Management, Public Administration, Urban Management, Architecture, Business Administration, Landscape Architecture, Geography, or related field; three (3) years of related work experience in professional planning preferably in a government setting including one (1) year of professional planning experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Salary commensurate with experience
This position requires an analytical thinker with practical knowledge of land planning, zoning, building and site design, and resource preservation. The ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks and meet critical deadlines is required. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills as well as the ability to adapt to a variety of situations including frequent interactions with staff, applicants, top governmental officials, and citizens. Skill using industry-standard planning software such as 3D modeling programs, graphic design applications, and ArcGIS is strongly preferred. Presenting at periodic evening meetings and workshops is required
