Job Description

The Loudoun County Department of Family Services is currently seeking talented and highly motivated candidates who are looking to work in a diverse, exciting, and fast paced work environment and have a desire to help others gain self-sufficiency.

This position is responsible for oversight of the Virginia Initiative for Education and Work (VIEW) Program. The VIEW Program provides employment, education, and training opportunities to assist individuals in attaining the goal of self-sufficiency. Responsibilities include direct, daily oversight of the team of Career and Family Counselors to include ensuring policy and procedures are adhered to and relevant training is provided.

Responsibilities include identifying crisis situations and providing intervention as needed to address difficult or dangerous client situations. This position is responsible for evaluation and reporting of performance data related to employment services. Responsibilities include management of community contracts and developing short- and long-term programs goals. This position is also responsible for managing the program's budget and approving expenditures for client supportive services. 

The ideal candidate should have the following:

  • Knowledge of social, economic, and health problems.
  • Knowledge of research principles including analysis, interpretation, and use of statistics.
  • Extensive knowledge of complex federal, state, and local VIEW and TANF policies.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills and the ability to communicate complex policies to customers and staff.
  • Can communicate and establish effective working relationships with clients, coworkers, vendors, community resources, and the general public.
  • The ability to prepare reports and maintain records.

Hiring range commensurate with experience.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Health, or related field and three (3) years of related work experience including one (1) year of supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred skills include:

  • Case management experience working with TANF and/or VIEW recipients.
  • Experience in Public Benefits programs, to include SNAP, Medicaid, and Child Care.
  • Grant/contract management experience.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Special Requirements

  • This position may be assigned and required to work at an alternate work site(s) to carry out duties that support the needs of the County.
  • In addition, you must be available for duty beyond the normal workday (8:30am - 5:00pm), which includes nights, weekends, and holidays, as required to perform functions of the position for the assigned department.
  • The successful candidate may be required to perform work that involves crisis situations and is required to make decisions involving people, resources, and property. 
  • This position has limited telework opportunity after successful evaluation of performance.
