As the Arts Curator, you will be overseeing all of the County's visual art collection and the gallery and exhibition spaces in county parks and facilities. Be part of something that matters!

Our PRCS Arts Curator serves as a specialized coordinator for the department; utilizes knowledge of policies and procedures to advise management on applicable laws and regulations, and best practices related to displaying public art; plans exhibition displays and works with internal partners to secure pieces for display and acquisition of permanent collection pieces; and actively promotes public art through interactions with the Loudoun Arts Advisory Council. This position must be familiar with art collection security and best practices. PRCS serves a diverse population including but not limited to youth, adults, individuals with disabilities, and seniors.

We are currently hiring at the following location: 

PRCS, 742 Miller Drive, Leesburg, VA

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Stay current with national, regional, and local arts agencies, programs, grants and networks, and applicable laws pertaining to public art. 
  • Plans, develops, and coordinates art exhibition programs, activities, and resources. 
  • Collects and secures artwork and oversees donations and loans.
  • Manages the registrar and receipt of artworks and exhibit materials; maintains exhibition guidelines. 
  • Maintains documentation files on the artist and the collection. 
  • Schedules arts events in the gallery and establishes and enforces art handling and gallery use procedures.
  • Obtains signage for the gallery spaces and supplies and materials needed for safe and secure installation of the collection and loan artwork. 
  • Coordinates and manages gallery programs and outreach programs related to art exhibitions. 
  • Provide exemplary internal customer service to employees and partners while developing and maintaining positive and effective relationships across the department and government. 
  • Recommends and implements SOPs governing work of assigned area.

Job Requirements

Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Arts, Public Administration, or a related field and One (1) year related work experience including lead or supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1+ years of local government or non-profit public art-specific experience. 
  • Experience with visual art curation in a museum, gallery, or similar type of facility. 
  • Familiarity with local government or the field of Parks & Recreation. 
  • Experience with public art exhibitions.
