The County's VA Stormwater Management (SWM) Program (VSMP) in the Department of Building and Development serves the community by ensuring that stormwater runoff is managed in compliance with State and County Code. As an integral part of the day-to-day operations of the VSMP, the successful candidate will apply knowledge of engineering principles in conducting inspections of SWM Best Management Practices (BMPs) during construction, and initiating enforcement action when necessary, to ensure they are completed per plan and in compliance with State and County Ordinances. At the end of construction, they will be responsible for coordinating BMP acceptance with other County agencies and for processing Termination of the VSMP Construction General Permit. The Engineering Technician will periodically be responsible for reviewing stormwater plans, for processing VSMP Permit applications and terminations, and for completing other related duties as assigned. Attention to detail, accurate record keeping and a thorough knowledge of Best Management Practice (BMP) design and the County's local SWM program requirements will be essential in carrying out these duties.

Job Requirements

Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associates Degree and two (2) years of related work experience, preferably related to stormwater, management, engineering, or a related field.

Special Requirements

Possession of a valid driver's license and good driving record is required. The incumbent must have or pass the Virginia Storm Water Management Inspector certification exam within one (1) year of hire after completing necessary coursework. Prefer Stormwater Management Plan Reviewer certification within two (2) years of hire. This position requires working in an outdoor environment during varying types of weather (hot or cold), and the ability to lift 50 lbs. Applicants must be able to inspect active construction projects, often requiring significant walking or crawling through tight spaces, and climbing into manhole structures.
