Job Description

The Loudoun County Department of General Services is seeking a highly motivated, customer service driven Service Manager to oversee the Waste Management Division's equipment maintenance operations. The successful candidate will manage and oversee the maintenance and repair program of landfill equipment including heavy earth-moving equipment, agricultural, landscape, and off-road vehicles/equipment. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Development and implementation of equipment maintenance activities to reduce maintenance program costs and downtime
  • Oversight of maintenance program for a $6.5 million heavy equipment fleet
  • Scheduling and oversight of maintenance and repair contractors/contracts
  • Utilization of computer databases to ensure that all required maintenance is performed as required
  • Ensures equipment, tools, vehicles, and fueling stations are working and maintained
  • Orders and maintains parts and tool inventory
  • Troubleshooting of equipment, including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and compressed air systems

This position will provide general supervision of the Landfill Mechanic and will provide rotational backup coverage for other facility positions such as Crew Chief, Scale Operator, Mechanic, and/or Heavy Equipment Operator, and operate snow removal equipment.

Salary Commensurate with Experience

Job Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent with specialized training in a maintenance/trade area related to the position; three (3) years of related work experience in maintenance/trades area related to the position; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prefer hands-on small engine repair skills, welding skills.

Special Requirements

Virginia Waste Management Facility Operator License within two years of hire.
Prefer Class A CDL Driver's License with N endorsement.

Post Conditional Offer Contingencies

Pass pre-employment criminal, credit, and DMV background checks. Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification.) CDL holders must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing at time of hire and continue to meet DOT/CDL requirements, including alcohol and drug testing.
