The Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue in Loudoun County Virginia is seeking a Personal Property Tax Assessor to assess personal property taxes.
The selected candidate will provide excellent customer service in person and over the phone in a fast-paced work environment; will have to utilize state tax code, case law, and local ordinances to ensure that vehicles are assessed fairly, equitably, and uniformly; will be expected to interact confidently with vehicle owners and federal, state, and local authorities to ensure local tax compliance and defend assessments; will also work with various County agencies as collection, bankruptcy, appeal, and litigation issues dictate. Must ensure the confidentiality of tax information and participate in professional training to remain informed of federal, state, and local taxes. This is a front counter position and involves working with the public both in person and on the telephone. Fluency in Spanish is preferred.
Hiring salary commensurate with experience
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and four (4) years of related experience in taxation or finance. Bachelor's degree in Business, Management or Finance preferred. Knowledge of personal property tax structures, state and federal taxes, and accounting practices are desirable. Must have good written and verbal communication skills as well as research and analytical skills. Must be able to meet deadlines, problem solve, and multitask. Must have knowledge of automated systems along with direct customer service experience. Flexibility and the ability to independently exercise good professional judgment are also required.
Must obtain and maintain Virginia Notary Public certification.
