We are seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Recreation Programmer. Recreation Programmers plan and facilitate programs and special events, including developing, marketing, and promoting new events. In addition, they are instrumental support in hiring and training staff and implement community center programs. 

Successful candidates will be hard-working individuals who demonstrate creativity and teamwork as well as critical thinking and organizational skills. Applicants, with strong time-management skills, who can work and communicate effectively as part of a team across a large organization, and who demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal direction on some projects, are encouraged to apply. We are currently hiring at the following locations: 

  • Loudoun Valley Community Center, Purcellville, VA 
  • Douglas Community Center, Leesburg, VA 
  • Sterling Community Center, Sterling VA

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Coordinates and manages recreation events and programs for diverse participants and age groups. 
  • Develop and manage program budget along with a marketing plan. 
  • Monitors participants and patrons, recruits, and trains volunteers. 
  • Designs and creates marketing materials to promote community center activities.

*Successful candidates must be willing to work a very flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends.*

Job Requirements

High School Diploma; two years of related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in recreation and sports management or related field. 
  • Knowledge of special recreation programs, depending on assignment. 
  • Bilingual ability in English/Spanish. 
  • Experience conducting outreach activities in community settings. 
  • Experience in various computer programs including Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, RecTrac or similar software programs.

Post Conditional Offer Contingencies

  • Criminal background, Child Protective Services (CPS), credit, and DMV records checks are required.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Fingerprinting, TB test within 30 days of hire.
  • Hold or obtain First Aid/CPR certifications at hire or within four (4) months.
  • Depending on assigned program, may require a CDL (Class C with Passenger endorsement) learner’s permit within 3 months and license within 6 months of hire.
