Job Description

The Loudoun County Attorney's Office is seeking a Senior Assistant County Attorney. Candidates who may not possess the experience required for a Senior level position as a land use attorney may be considered at the Assistant County Attorney level.

Senior Assistant County Attorney or Assistant County Attorney will focus on land use, zoning and development. The successful candidate will provide legal advice and counsel to County staff, the Board of Supervisors, the Planning Commission, and other advisory bodies in matters related to the review and processing of legislative applications (e.g., rezonings and special exceptions) and administrative land development applications (e.g., subdivisions and site plans), bonds management, interpretation of conservation easements, and interpretation and enforcement of the County's development ordinances. Responsibilities may include, among other things, reviewing proffers and special exception conditions; drafting and reviewing proposed ordinance amendments; negotiating, drafting and/or reviewing deeds, easements and land development agreements; and drafting or reviewing staff reports for the Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission.

This attorney may also represent the County and its officials in zoning appeals and Code enforcement proceedings and assist litigation counsel with land use litigation.

The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively with clients and third-parties (including land development applicants), manage multiple projects timely and efficiently, provide clear direction to paralegal and review paralegal's work, and attend evening meetings as needed. Strong analytical, communication and advocacy, problem solving, time management, and organizational skills are required. Demonstrated experience concerning Virginia local government law, zoning and land development law, and/or real estate law is strongly preferred.
