Job Description

The Office of the Loudoun County Commissioner of the Revenue is seeking a Residential Supervising Appraiser. The Supervising Appraiser will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of a residential assessment team.

Candidates should be seasoned professionals with significant appraisal, ad valorem tax, and supervisory experience. Candidates must be able to utilize and defend residential assessment models, collect and process data relative to the sales verification process, be familiar with commercial valuation practices, be able to complete and understand ratio studies. Will serve as an expert witness relative to divisional assignments.

Must be able to measure and calculate building and site areas, supervise and train assigned personnel, and have the ability to complete any valuation assignment. Comprehensive knowledge of the appraisal principles, practices and techniques related to the assessment of real estate is required.

The successful candidate must possess a thorough knowledge of applicable state and local laws pertaining to the assessment function. Candidates must have the ability to manage a high-volume workload, deal effectively with staff and management, assist internal and external customers as required, and resolve conflicts.

Candidates must have working knowledge of MS Office software and CAMA systems.

HIRING RANGE: $68,970.58-$94,834.54

Salary commensurate with experience

Job Requirements

Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) in a field related to Real Estate Appraisal, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration and four (4) years of progressive assessment and appraisal experience.

Three years of supervisory experience is desired along with a SRA, MAI, RES, MAS, or CAE designation preferred. Must be proficient in employee supervision, selection, work planning, organization, performance review and evaluation, and employee training and discipline.

Requires thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of complex real property appraisal for real property tax assessment purposes; applicable laws, codes and regulations; computer applications related to assessment work; standard office administrative practices and procedures; methods and techniques of property ownership research and investigation; record keeping principles and practices; and techniques for dealing with the public.

Ability to establish effective working relationships with fellow employees, County officials, members of the business community and the general public. Knowledge of Virginia taxation law and county regulations governing the appraisal of commercial, industrial, residential and special purpose properties is necessary.

Special Requirements

Ability to work in various outdoor weather conditions, traverse undeveloped land and tour construction sites. Occasional bending, stooping and light lifting may be required.

Must maintain a valid driver's license in Virginia or regional state of residence.
