Job Description

Loudoun County Department of Family Services seeks a dedicated and experienced professional leader for its Child Protective Services (CPS) Supervisor position.

The successful candidate will join the Department of Family Services which envisions better health, safety, and well-being for all and supports individuals and families in the community to live their best lives while advocating for those most vulnerable and respecting their right to self-determination.  This critical supervisory position directs and supports the work of Family Services Specialists II that investigate or assess allegations of child abuse or neglect. Under the direction of a Program Manager serving with a peer supervisory team, this position provides leadership and oversight of the Child Protective Services program.

This work is multifaceted, as outlined in its core responsibilities:

  • Supervising Family Services Specialists II staff that investigates and assesses child abuse or neglect complaints during regular business hours, evenings, overnight, weekends, holidays, on a scheduled rotation, or as assigned using strengths-based and trauma-informed perspectives, and devises safety and service plans.
  • Providing supervision on rotation during evenings, overnight, weekends, and holidays.
  • Assuring adherence to all local, state, and federal policies, procedures, and regulations for investigations, assessments, and record keeping.
  • Coordinating with agency partners and service providers to achieve high-quality services and targeted family outcomes. 
  • Reviewing documentation and electronic records for accuracy, adherence to all policies and procedures, clarity, and completeness.
  • Collaborating with agency partners to identify and address service gaps.
  • Conducting informal staff quarterly reviews and performance appraisals annually; addressing performance issues promptly.
  •  Recruiting, hiring, and training new staff.
  • Addressing client/customer/consumer complaints and concerns promptly.
  • Analyzing and evaluating program success.
  • Providing community and programmatic crisis intervention and emergency responses as directed.

Hiring Rage: 62,207.51-85,535.32- Salary Commensurate with Experience.

Job Requirements

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Social Work or directly related field and four (4) years of directly related experience in a Child Welfare or Family Services setting including 1 year of staff supervisory experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

Special Requirements

We are seeking an individual with:

  • General knowledge of the human services system with specialized knowledge and experience in at least one (1) program area related to CPS.
  • Leadership experience in a team environment.
  • Knowledge regarding a family services system of care philosophy and values.
  • Knowledge of government structure, operation, and regulatory functions.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with individuals in a diversity of roles, such as families, colleagues, agencies, vendors, consultants and state and local government officials.
  • Ability to think critically and creatively to address crises and resolve problems within the service delivery system. Excellent organizational and time management skills, including the ability to reprioritize, perform, and complete critical competing tasks.
  • Excellent communications skills, both oral and written with the ability to reach a variety of audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Power Point and Excel software. Preferred Qualifications
  • Currently licensed or license-eligible (transferrable) in the Commonwealth of Virginia as an LCSW or LPC.
  • Experience interpreting and monitoring adherence to complex policies and regulations.
