Introduction

The Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time clinician position in the Behavioral Health Outpatient Team.

Job Description

The clinician in this position works primarily at the Juvenile Detention Center providing mental health support, risk assessments, individual check-ins, individual therapy, family therapy and group therapy.

The clinician may carry a small caseload in the Leesburg clinic, providing individual, family and group therapy. In addition, the clinician will have the opportunity to take on the role of Independent Examiner for juvenile civil commitment hearings. You would be trained for this role by our team of forensic psychologists who have a combined total of over 90 years of experience.

We welcome a new team member to join our group of professionals who provide dynamic, integrated, and effective care to persons impacted by substance use, mental health disorders and trauma. Work locations for this position will include a hybrid of telehealth, on-site Leesburg Mental Health center and the off-site location at the Juvenile Detention Center.

Clinicians provide:

  • Assessment and evaluation, individual, group, and family therapy
  • Service Coordination, including service coordination and collaboration with the Medication services
  • Crisis intervention and stabilization, interagency consultation and coordination of treatment services
  • Assessment and referral for individuals in need of detoxification and/or residential treatment services, and monitoring/ coordination of services with treatment vendors as appropriate
  • Clinicians must maintain all clinical records and documentation according to federal state and agency policies and procedures and assure compliance with state standards.

The Department places a high priority on professional training and supervision, and selected candidates will be supported in efforts to learn and utilize effective, person-centered, trauma-informed, evidence-based interventions.

  • Selected candidates will be provided opportunities and supervision resources to obtain and maintain professional licensure.
  • Selected candidates will also receive training and supervision for certification from Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) as a Certified Preadmission Prescreening Clinician.

HIRING RANGE: $58,071.37-$79,848.14- Salary commensurate with experience.

Job Requirements

  • Masters degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling and/or Marriage and Family Therapy
  • Minimum 1 year professional experience in the provision of Substance Abuse and Mental Health treatment services
  • Must be VA clinical license eligible
  • Must be knowledgeable in both substance abuse and mental health issues 
  • Must demonstrate strong clinical skills in providing individual, group and family therapy
  • Must possess strong organizational skills
  • Must demonstrate the ability to function as a member of a clinical team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 year experience working with adolescents and their families.
  • Previous experience providing treatment to incarcerated youth.

Special Requirements

  • Work schedule is 37.5 hours per week and will include evening hours two nights per week
  • Formal training in treatment of adolescents, substance abuse and mental health issues preferred
  • VA clinical licensure or license-eligible as LPC, LMFT, LCSW, LCP
  • Must be fitted for N-95 (or similar) mask to safely provide on-site services as needed
  • Must be able to provide behavioral health services remotely using appropriate technological support and according to professional standards

Post Conditional Offer Contingencies

  • Employment is contingent upon successfully passing pre-employment background check to include fingerprinting, credit, NCIC, DMV and TB test.
  • Must have a good driving record and a valid driver's license in Virginia or regional state of residence.
