The Loudoun County Department of Family Services is seeking a dedicated professional for a Foster Care Specialist position in the Foster Care and Adoption unit.

Job Description

Qualified candidates will have a demonstrated interest in working with children and their families, as well as a desire to work in a diverse, fast-paced environment.

This position provides services to children in foster care and their families in an effort to reunify them or to secure other permanent living situations for children when reunification is not successful.

The Foster Care Specialist responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  •  Conducts face-to-face contacts and home visits to ensure that children in foster care are safe and their physical, emotional and educational needs are being met
  • Provides case management services to children and families
  • Conducts comprehensive assessments of the strengths and needs of children and their families
  • Writes thorough service plans to be filed with the court, consults with county attorneys and provides thorough and accurate court testimony
  • Maintains thorough and timely case documentation in a State database, in accordance with local and state policy
  • Collaborates with community partners and service providers to deliver services to children and their families
  • Engages youth and families in regular planning meetings to develop a family-centered service plan that ensures the safety, permanency and well-being of children in foster care
  • Responds to crises, including after business hours

Hiring Range: $57,146.64-$77,147- Salary Commensurate with Experience.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Sociology, Public Administration, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field; three (3) years of related work experience in a social service field or child/adult welfare department; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written skills, good organizational skills and the ability to engage children and families with a trauma-informed, strength-based approach.
  • Must have knowledge of foster care policies and procedures

Special Requirements

  • Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification).
  • Pass pre-employment background checks to include criminal, credit, CPS/APS, and DMV checks. Hold or obtain certifications such as CPR if required for assigned position.
  • Obtain specific training such as Foster Care state training as required or desired for assigned area.
  • Must be available for duty beyond normal workday which includes weekends and holidays, as required to perform functions of the position.
  • Occasional travel outside of the area may be needed.
  • Bi-lingual skills in Spanish and English preferred.
