Job Description

The Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Services is currently seeking qualified applicants for Recreation Programmers at the following community centers.

  • Sterling Community Center
  • Douglas Community Center

Our Community Center facilities strive to provide a wide array of year-round programs and activities for the community. 

 

As a Recreation Programmer you will: 

  • Implement a variety of programs, activities, classes, and special events to serve all segments of a diverse population
  • Identify trends and assure programs meet citizen expectations and needs
  • Develop marketing materials to promote programs
  • Oversee and perform general supervision of facility drop-in users, renters, and participants
  • Handle customer concerns
  • Assist with light facility maintenance tasks, such as room set up and break down

Job Requirements

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to high school diploma and two years related work experience
  • Requires 6 months experience supervising children during recreational or educational activities
  • Valid Driver's License required
  • Negative TB test result is required prior to beginning work

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Active membership in the Virginia Recreation and Park Society is beneficial to the position.

Post Conditional Offer Contingencies

-Criminal background, Child Protective Services (CPS), fingerprinting, credit and DMV record checks required.

-TB test within 30 days of hire

-Hold or obtain First Aid/CPR certifications at hire or within four (4) months.
