Job Description

The Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse Services and Developmental Services is currently seeking two qualified applicants for Senior Peer Support Specialists. One position must have veteran experience and one position with a minimum of military competency training.

The Senior Peer Support Specialist provides support to individuals in the Access Program.

  • Emphasize military cultural competence and working with service members, veterans, and their families to help connect them to supports within and external to MHSADS
  • Provides peer support, advocacy, family orientation/education, administrative activities, and supportive services to other adults with serious mental illness or co-occurring serious mental illness and substance abuse in a variety of non-clinic-based settings.
  • Must have lived experience (current or former person receiving behavioral healthcare).

Work schedule is flexible and may require day and evening hours.

HIRING RANGE: $38,532.25-$51,055.23- Salary commensurate with experience

Job Requirements

  • Requires a High School diploma or equivalent, two (2) years of related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess or obtain the certification of a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS).
  • Military Cultural Competency Training.

Post Conditional Offer Contingencies

Employment is contingent upon successfully passing pre-employment background check to include fingerprinting, credit, NCIC, DMV and TB test.

Must have a good driving record and a valid driver's license in Virginia or regional state of residence.
