Job Description

Loudoun County's Department of Building and Development is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Director. This is a senior-level Assistant Director position that provides leadership and oversight for the Department's Land Development Planning, Natural Resources, and Land Development Engineering Program Divisions. This position is responsible for the timely administration of federal, state, and local regulatory programs, including Stormwater Management, Erosion and Sediment Control, Floodplain, Natural Resources, Site Plans, Construction Plans and Profiles, Performance Bonds and Subdivision of Land. The Assistant Director oversees the management of multiple, highly complex projects, coordinates problem-solving of emergency or ad hoc projects assigned by the Director and Deputy Director, provides strategic planning for the department's long and short-term goals and objectives. This position presents to community members, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, and other public forums on a wide variety of land use issues and is responsible for leading and managing a high-performing staff of engineers, planners, and other professional staff, as well as maintaining a professional work environment in accordance with County policies and procedures. Successful candidates will possess a working knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices of engineering, planning, and natural resource protection; including the ability to solve common and unusual problems associated with land use and development; working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and ordinances; the skills to defend regulatory requirements; as well as the ability to determine the efficient and effective use of human, fiscal and material resources. Candidates must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to develop strong working relationships with the Department Director, Deputy Director, Members of the Board of Supervisors, other County staff, state agencies, and regional partners.

Job Requirements

Master's degree in Engineering, Planning, Natural Resources Management, Business Administration, or Public Administration or related field with at least five (5) years of related work experience including two (2) years of supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 Hiring Range: $92,257.58- $133,773.49

Salary Commensurate with Experience

Special Requirements

The successful candidate must be available to support evening Board of Supervisor and Board Committee meetings as well as conduct or support project-related public information meetings and public hearings.
