Job Description

The Deputy of Business Tax Compliance is a management position in the Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue, one of Loudoun's five elected Constitutional Officers and is responsible for the management of the Business Tax Compliance program. The position ensures that persons or entities liable for business license, business tangible personal property, bank franchise, excise and other local business taxes adhere to tax laws and ordinances. The Tax Compliance Deputy will lead a team of nine tax auditors and field representatives who are responsible for ensuring that businesses comply with gross receipts, property, franchise, excise, and other local taxes. This position seeks to encourage voluntary compliance and ensure that every business subject to these local taxes is properly registered and paying the taxes to the County that they are obligated to pay. The successful candidate will research, interpret, and apply tax laws and rulings to administer tax programs fairly, equitably, and uniformly and respond to appeals and litigation to defend tax assessments. This position will also monitor, compile, and maintain accurate compliance program workload and performance measurement data for budget purposes. Must have exceptional writing skills and familiarity with Virginia?s local tax structure. Must be an extremely well-organized problem solver with keen research skills and the ability to handle multiple concurrent projects and motivate a team of tax professionals. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Job Requirements

Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master's degree in business, management, finance, or a related field and a minimum four (4) years related professional experience in business, management and finance area. Experience is preferred with automated systems, customer services, and direct personnel supervision. Comprehensive knowledge of principles, methods and practices of accounting and auditing procedures and standards, as well as general tax knowledge is required. Prefer Public sector experience.

Special Requirements

Must have the ability to tour commercial facilities of all types.
