Job Description

The Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney is currently seeking qualified applicants for an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney II.

This position will be responsible for preparing charging documents, reviews evidentiary documents, issues subpoenas, interviews and prepares witnesses, performs legal research, responds to pre-trial and post-trial motions. Conducts trial strategy. Coordinates with victim-witness case manager. Represents the Commonwealth in sentencing hearings, probation violation hearings, show cause hearings, etc. In addition, they will manage a felony caseload; Coordinate witnesses and follows investigative matters with law enforcement through the preliminary hearing stage; Evaluate and screen cases for disposal in District Court or indictment in Circuit Court. As well as encouraging staff performance by providing performance direction, feedback, mentoring, coaching and training. Promotes teamwork and collaboration.

Job Requirements

Requires a Juris Doctor Degree (JD) from an accredited law school and two (2) years of related work experience as a licensed practicing attorney; license to practice in Virginia.
