The Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services is currently seeking an Employment Specialist to provide employment related services to clients for the County.

Job Description

Conducts situational assessments; provides job development, placement and training, follow along services, benefits counseling, provides employment counseling and customized employment; assists with locating public transportation; provides referrals to other agencies for education, workshops, training for job seekers and other resources as needed; collaborates with other agencies; and evaluates and reports on employment related service needs.

  • Provides work and work-related support, counseling, and guidance to consumers; assists clients in identifying employment goals; conducts assessments as needed; and researches and identifies job opportunities to meet clients' goals and skills.)
  • Documents clients employment services; meets CARF, DARS and departmental documentation standards.
  • Develops contacts with community partners and local businesses to support program goals; develops and presents informational seminars about Job Link programs and services to customer and the community as needed.
  • Advocates to address clients' needs within scope of available services.
  • Establish effective working relationships with clients, coworkers, community resources, and the general public.
  • Prepare reports and maintain case records.
  • Communicate complex ideas effectively to individuals or groups, both orally and in writing.
  • Identify social problems and needs.
  • Help individuals and families to utilize services in problem solving.
  • May perform other essential job functions specific to the position and department assignment.

Job Requirements

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or related field to assigned Department and one (1) year of related work experience in Social Work, Counseling, Employment Services or related field.

 

 

Special Requirements

Knowledge of social, economic and health problems; specialized services and community resources; individual and group behavior; and research principles including analysis, interpretation and use of statistics.  Proficient skill in the use of computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Oracle and Anasazi; working efficiently through counseling and other methods with individuals and families in helping them solve their problems and the ability to plan and organize workload.  Must be able to wear N-95 mask and personal protective equipment (PPE) such as face shield, mask, apron, gown, gloves, etc.

Post Conditional Offer Contingencies

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment background check to include fingerprinting, NCIC,  driving record check and TB test. Must have and maintain a valid driver's license in Virginia or regional state of residence.
