Job Description

The Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney for Loudoun County is seeking a dedicated and experienced paralegal with exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills to assist attorneys with preparing cases for trial. This recruitment may be used to fill multiple vacancies for a temporary period of time due to expire at the end of the fiscal year. 

The Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney has submitted a request for permanent Paralegals in the FY22 budget and is pending approval of the Board of Supervisors (BOS).

Job Requirements

The paralegal will be responsible to complete the following duties (informative not exhaustive):

  • Administratively support the attorneys in all areas of trial preparation.
  • Assist with managing/handling high level criminal trials;
  • Assist with misdemeanor dockets / scheduling;
  • Perform legal research;
  • Prepare trial notebooks, exhibits, etc.;
  • Prepare trial briefs;
  • Draft, proof-reading all outgoing pleadings, correspondence, and documents;
  • Prepare Discovery responses - bates stamping documents, scan, copy and duplicate video disks;
  • Handle communication between prosecutors and law enforcement, court clerks, witnesses, victims, etc.;
  • Obtain, manage and organize all case related documents.

Must be experienced in basic admin abilities, i.e., scanning, photocopying, faxing, and mailing documents. Must be proficient in all aspects of Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Back up senior admin staff while on leave. Perform other such duties as assigned.

Special Requirements

Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to high school diploma and five (5) years of experience in a law office or government setting. Associate's degree with focus in paralegal coursework preferred.

Post Conditional Offer Contingencies

Must be VCIN certified within six (6) months of employment. Must hold or be able to obtain notary certification within six (6) months of hire.  Successful candidate will undergo criminal and credit background checks.
